Who are Badger?

Badger is a family-owned, women-led company founded in 1995 in Gilsum, New Hampshire by Bill Whyte, a carpenter whose hands would crack and split during harsh New England winters. He mixed up a simple balm of beeswax and olive oil, started sharing it with friends, and built an entire company around it. Today, Badger produces over 100 organic skincare and sun care products, all manufactured in their own solar-powered facility. The company is a certified B Corp, repeatedly recognised as Best for the World and Best for the Environment.

Are Badger products safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. All Badger products are made from certified organic, plant-based ingredients and are free from synthetic chemicals, artificial fragrances, parabens, and petroleum. They are tested hypoallergenic and formulated to be gentle on even the most sensitive skin. That said, some products contain essential oils which certain individuals may be sensitive to. If you have known allergies, check the full ingredients list on the product page before purchasing.

What makes Badger sunscreens different from chemical sunscreens?

Badger sunscreens use non-nano zinc oxide as the sole active ingredient. Zinc oxide is a mineral that sits on top of the skin and physically reflects UV rays, rather than being absorbed into the body like chemical UV filters such as oxybenzone and octinoxate. This makes Badger sunscreens safer for sensitive skin, safer for coral reefs and marine life, and suitable for the whole family including babies and children. All Badger sunscreens are reef safe, biodegradable, and compliant with Hawaii Reef Act 104.

What does "clear zinc" mean?

Standard zinc oxide sunscreens are known for leaving a white, chalky cast on the skin. Badger's clear zinc is a form of non-nano zinc oxide that has been developed to be more transparent on application. It starts out white but rubs in significantly clearer than traditional zinc oxide, making it more practical for everyday use across all skin tones. It provides the same level of broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection as standard zinc oxide.

Are Badger products vegan?

Most Badger products contain organic beeswax, which means they are not vegan. However, the Aloe Vera Gel is fully vegan and contains no animal-derived ingredients. If you follow a vegan lifestyle, check the individual product specifications for confirmation. All Badger products are cruelty free and Leaping Bunny certified, meaning they are never tested on animals.
